Muscovy down has recently emerged as an exceptional insulation material, thanks to naturally larger, stronger down clusters for premium loft and durability, and sustainable considerations throughout the process. It is featured in our updated Parsec™ and Polar Ranger™ sleeping bag collections. Read on to discover the benefits of Muscovy down.
Performance
Higher Thermal Performance
Thanks to its high loft, larger cluster size and many ‘reverse’ barbs that trap more air, Muscovy down delivers outstanding thermal insulation, consistently beating goose down in a variety of temperature tests. It traps more air per ounce and can reach up to 950+ fill power.
More Durable, Lofty and Resilient Plumes
Muscovy down offers stronger, more resilient cluster stems that ensures the loft lasts longer over time. Muscovy ducks’ growth time is twice as long as other ducks (90-100 days), which leads to superior mature down plumes. Lab testing shows that Muscovy down holds up better after multiple washes and rebounds from compression faster than goose down. Care instructions for Muscovy down products is the same as goose down.
Less Internal Shifting
The clingy structure of Muscovy down, including the reverse barbs, strong stems and generous loft, helps individual clusters cling to one another, meaning they stay in place better within baffles and panels, reducing shifting and cold spots.
Sustainability
High-Quality Care for Demanding Animals
Our Muscovy down comes from animals kept in lower-density, free-range environments, meaning healthier birds and higher-quality down. Additionally, their down is a by-product of meat production, aligning with responsible sourcing and full-animal use practices. It is also RDS-certified and processed in a facility that is 76% powered by solar energy.
Patented Ultrasonic Cleaning
Our Muscovy down is cleaned with ultrasonic technology—a water-based, chemical-free method that uses sound waves to remove impurities at the microscopic level. This process delivers ultra-clean down (turbidity levels of ≥1500) with improved hypoallergenic properties while using 20% less water, detergent and energy than traditional methods.
