MSR offers two main types of cookware: Stove System Cookware and Conventional (Flat-Bottomed) Cookware. Understanding which type works with your stove is essential for safety and performance.
Stove System Cookware Compatibility
This cookware is specifically engineered to work with a particular stove system due to the unique interface between the pot and stove.
- Examples:
- Reactor cookware is only compatible with the Reactor Stove System.
- WindBurner cookware works exclusively with WindBurner Stove Systems.
These pots are easily identified by the welded heat exchangers on their bottoms.
⚠️ Important: Stove system cookware is not compatible with any other type of stove due to stability and safety concerns.
Conventional Cookware Compatibility
Flat-bottomed cookware is compatible with all MSR conventional stoves. However, it is strictly incompatible with stove system stoves like the Reactor or WindBurner.
- Why? Flat-bottomed pans reflect excessive heat back onto stove system stoves, which can damage their advanced components and safety features.
- Safety Feature: These stoves are designed to automatically shut down in such cases to prevent gas leaks—potentially leaving you without a stove mid-trip.The Exception: The Switch Stove System
The Switch Stove System is a unique hybrid:
- It features a welded heat exchanger like stove system cookware.
- It also includes folding pot supports that allow it to safely support conventional cookware up to 8 in / 20.3 cm in diameter.
✅ Compatible with:
- Its own Switch system cookware
- Conventional cookware (with pot supports deployed)
❌ Not recommended with: Other stove system cookware
