A tent's lifespan really depends on how often you use it and how well you store and care for it. Just like our skin, a tent's biggest foe is UV radiation and/or being stored wet. If a tent is exposed to extreme conditions, like at Everest Base Camp, it might only last a few months. However, a well-maintained tent that’s used occasionally in normal conditions can last for many years.
It's also worth noting that for ultralight fabrics, the waterproof coatings will gradually break down with time and use, regardless of the brand. Generally, the thinner the fabric, the more delicate the coating. For instance, a 3lb tent will likely need its coatings refreshed more often than a 10lb tent made with thicker materials and coatings. We suggest using Gear Aid or Nikwax for coating restoration and tent cleaning products. Both offer great options to help keep your tent in good shape.
