Naptha is a broad term used to describe a wide range of petroleum liquids ranging from light solvents more volatile than auto gasoline to solvents and thinners used in dry cleaning, engraving and other processes. Because the term naptha is so broad and fuel is becoming more specialized, the term naptha is gradually being replaced by more specific names. Stove performance will vary depending on the type of naptha used but it is compatible with the MSR DragonFly Stove and the MSR XGK Stove. Typically the G-Jet will work with naptha, but if the flame burns yellow use the K-Jet.
Mineral spirits is a general name for fuels with weights between white gas and kerosene. They are sold at hardware stores as paint thinner and at dry cleaners as stoddard solvent. You may see mineral spirits referred to as turpentine. They are similar to white gas in terms of stove performance and maintenance, but they more difficult to prime and have a stronger odor than White Gas. Mineral Spirits use the G-Jet.
Both naptha and mineral spirits burn cleaner than kerosene or diesel, but your stove may still require periodic cleaning to maintain performance depending on the quality of the fuel. We would recommend cleaning after every 15-30 hours of use depending on the quality of fuel.
